Don't be too upset about the silver alright?
For us to maintain 3 silvers, it's really incredible.
Just listen to the recording. It's a little muffled, but it sounds really nice.
You might even be thinking why we didn't get a a gold.

SYF is coming soon!! by then u should know wad is maggato staccato etc..le(sorry for wrong spelling =x) i know u guys are trying ur best to learn la..but i am sure this is not the best u all hav put in la..seniors scold u is for ur own good la..i am sure by then when u yourself become a senior u will understand hw it takes to teach ur junior de!hope to see better improvement in u all ar! one advise is to bring ur instrument home and practise just like how we(ur sec 3s seniors) did when we were sec 1..u can gather with a group of ur friends(sec1 skyband) to go to an place and prac together de..

Yup, the saxes blog is finally back ONLINE!!! wooohooo~~
So sorry i've screwed the code the last time.
Some can view the blog, but a lot others can't. So, yup, here i am tryig to redeem myself by re-making the codes of the blog. Feel free to change to colours of the skin. Even feel free to change the blogskin if you guys wan. This is just something simple i found which is suitable for everyone.
Of course, all these wouldn't have been possible without the help of Mr Ong Chee Hui Ernest, doing the template and stuff.
Being the computer moron i am, i can't possibly do all these codes. So ya, thx a lot ernest!!!

That aside.
SYF is not exactly tomorrow, but it is coming real soon. Before you know it, you guys will be in that scary and freezing room, warming-up / tuning and then the proceeding to perform. And soon, all our dearest Sec 3s would all have stepped down. After all that beating-around-the-bush, you guys should know what am i directing at. Must practise hard arh! DO SKYBAND PROUD!

At the end of the day, you guys wanna leave the conference hall knowing you guys did your best.
You dun wanna walk out, knowing that the saxes are severly penalised right?

Building on weilong's idea, we all can actually go some place and shop for clothes n stuff...
Then maybe we try to make a SAXOPHONE TEE?? Like do cheap cheap method...use spray paint and spray e shirt...
Those design shirt de shops might charge us very exp cuz only 8 of us making...

That aside,
I rather go park n picnic for e outing...cuz arh, saxes now got boys n gals leh...
U cant expect a guy to pei a gal shop right?? Then we all confirm will split up and buy our own stuff, which would beat e point of e outing right???
Well, tts just my own experience from shopping in groups...

Perhaps we can combine outing wif other sections?
Cuz a 8 person picnic is kinda ke lian u noe...
Or maybe we have a picnic for all our friends???

For MICHELLE, ur standard for sec 2 seriously nt bad!!!
Ur sight-reading are nt bad...jus tt u need to work on your moving notes...
I noe a little tricky...tts y u need more practise...
Also, u need to play out louder...
Have more confidence when u play, generally u will sound louder...

For WEILONG, ur techniques is one of the better ones among the saxes...
U have great control over ur articulations!!! which is a good thing!!!
U dun really have problem wif ur tonguings...jus tt u have to play louder...
Have more confidence when u play, generally u will sound louder...

For HANWEI, u have a nice tone and a loud volume...
I personally like ur tone when u were playing 2nd bar of I...^^ It sorta stands out from the rest...
However, ur articulations have to clearer...
perhaps it is a new reed or ur reed spoil...But practise k?^^

For CHOONKUN...urs is special case...
cuz tenor have a more difficult part then altos...
Eg letter E and F...ur part is so much harder then e altos...
To be able to run thru e piece wif e altos and be on par wif them is amazing!!!
Although some parts are a little messy, a little practise would solve it!!!
Practise makes perfect!!! JIAYOU!!! ^^

For UROOJ,
I can be a gd guy and go " take it slowly n stuff"
But i will be deceiving u...so im gonna be real straight wif my criticism...
Ur sight-reading i a little slow and lagging behind others...
ur basics are not there...simply rhythms shldnt be a prob to u...
But apparently, im wrong...
U need lots of practise...No one was born great...practise makes perfect!!!
But i have to say 1 thing...ur tone is nt bad...
i happen to hear u playing ur concert scale and i found out tt it was not bad at all!!!keep it up!!

Quite happy wif ur performance in e so-called test today...

But generally, u guys pay more attention to ARTICULATIONS!!!
Long or short, soft or hard tonguing, tongue or slurs oso must take note...all very impt...
U guys dun pay enuf attention to them...
During sectionals, those parts tt i corrected...
U guys repeat e mistakes in e band rm again...

U guys must change e mentality tt onli notes and tempo are impt...
Articulations, tone and dynamics are equally impt too....must pay more attention to them...

1stly, for Eugene!!!
Although slightly behind Fanny in the pursue of excellence, he has managed an amazing song 65 if im nt wrong...Hahas...
Nt bad Nt bad!!! SO PROUD OF U!!!
Also...he managed a hi E (a high E, nt a middle E ), tts a high la for u guys!!! hahas...
Tts like 1 more note away from the highest note in e fingering chart!!! woohoo~~
Im sure he could make it to the F# if nt for e complicated fingerings...hahas...

2ndly, for Fanny!!!
Slightly faster then eugene in e pursue of excellence...
If im nt wrong...she reached a marvellous 70+...or isit 80+?? i have no idea...hahas...
Nt bad oso!!! IM OSO SO PROUD OF U TOO!!!!
As for the high notes, i didnt teach her...cuz i see she like veri engrossed is e SOE so didnt teach her...

For those who dun have a copy of e sharps and flats for the major scales...this post is specially for u...if u wan to copy..by all means do so!!! ^^

So here is the new method...
Im arranging e MAJORS in increasing numbers of sharps and flats!!!

For Flats,
1 flat (B) -- F Major
2 flats ( B. E) -- Bb Major
3 flats ( B, E, A) --Eb Major
4 flats ( B, E, A, D) -- Ab Major
5 flats ( B ,E, A, D, G) --Db Major
6 flats ( B, E, A, D, G, C) -- Gb Major
Note: Ignore F Major
If u realise, Majors Bb Eb Ab Db Gb is already in B E A D G(the order of flats)...

For Sharps,
1 sharp (F) -- G Major
2 sharps ( F, C) -- D Major
3 sharps ( F, C, G) -- A Major
4 sharps ( F, C, G, D) -- E Major
5 sharps ( F, C, G, D, A) -- B Major
6 sharps ( F, C, G, D, A , E) -- F# Major
Note: Ignore F# major...
If u realise, Majors G D A E B spelt in reverse is B E A D G(the order of flats)...

Note that F# Major and Gb Major are the same, despite 1 being in sharp and 1 being in flat...

So u realise, ur orders of sharps and flats are real impt...especially e order of ur flats...cuz if u realise, most majors cannot escape from the "BEADG" rule...so MEMORISE THEM BY HARD!!!

Ok, jus to recap...

For altos(Eb instruments)...ur starting note of every major is 3 semi-tones below e concert...
for eg. Concert Bb -3 semi-tones = G Major (Bb ~ A ~ Ab ~ G)
similarly Concert G - 3 semi-tones = E Major (G ~ F# ~ F ~ E)

For tenors( Bb insrtuments)...ur starting note of every major is 2 semi-tones above e concert...
for eg. Concert Bb + 2 semi-tones = C Major (Bb ~ B ~ C)
similarly Concert G + 2 semi-tones = A Major (G ~ G# ~ A)

This shld be easy, cuz i tink i gt teach u all before...hahas...

Hey saxes!!! go borrow "I Recommend" and practise it!!! it is damn useful to help u memorise ur concert scales!!! I memorised 7 scales in like 1/2 hr??? try it...it is good...hahas...

It helps by memorising e sharps n flats, instead of memorising note by note...it is so much easier this way...try it!!!
